Casablanca Restaurant and Hookah Lounge

So, there was a huge wreck on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw the other day when my coworker Brandon and I wanted to go for lunch. So, we decided we’d venture up to Wade Green and try this new Mediterranean restaurant. It is tucked away in a strip mall near I75. There’s also a Johnny’s Pizza and Cold Stone in the center.

I don’t know what the place was before it became this restaurant but obviously a lot of money went into decorating the place. Lots of curtains (more for decoration than privacy) and low seating with comfy cushions. Very colorful setting. This would be great if you have a group of people to go. And I bet they would draw a bigger crowd if they had belly dancing.

Appetizers to try? Stuffed grape leaves and Falafel. I always thought Falafel was like a wrap but apparently its some sort of meat and spices that are fried and resemble a small doughnut. It was exquisite. We each had the beef wraps (I had the ground beef and Brandon had the beef tips). It was good but a little salty. Next time I’ll try the gyro.

Prices are like $7 for the wrap which comes with a side of fries. So, it is definitely reasonably priced. Hookahs are like 15 bucks if I am remembering correctly. I can’t wait to try these next time. Didn’t have enough time as I was on my lunch hour.

Kuroshio Sushi

Visit #1:
I was so glad when another
sushi
restaurant opened in Kennesaw. No longer a slave a Rusan’s (not that there’s anything wrong with it), I eagerly anticipated my first visit to Kuroshio. Upon entering you can see that a lot of money went into the place, definitely more upscale looking than Rusan’s.

We decided to stick with sushi although they have many, many options in their diverse menu (Japanese, Teriyaki, Fried Rice and Noodle entrees, etc). We opted to stay with
sushi
. One of our choices was La Rhumba (spicy tuna, crunches, top white tuna, avocado, spicy sauce). Sounded amazing to me. The other pick which I don’t remember the name of, had eel in it.

Our food arrived and although the presentation was lovely, as
sushi
usually is, the taste was disappointing. It didn’t have that fresh taste I’m used to with sushi. And the texture of the fish was strange too. It was as if it had been squeezed through a cake frosting tool. . So, although the service was good and the place has a pretty interior the food left something to be desired.

Visit #2:
Fast forward eight months – gas is $4 a gallon and as much as I love going ITP, my wallet doesn’t always agree. And after reading all the great reviews about the place, I had to give it another chance. So, on a rainy Wednesday, me and my coworker Brandon, headed out to try them again.

We both decided that we wanted entrees but Brandon wanted some
sushi
so he ordered some of their dollar sushi (3 pieces for a buck). For entrees, we both had the Spicy Lemongrass Beef. They should call it Unspicy Lemongrass Onions with a side of Beef.

As far as the service, I don’t know if our waitress was having and off day or what, but the service was incredibly slow. Our office is 3 mins away from the restaurant and our lunch hour turned out to be a lunch hour and a half. She didn’t seem very familiar with anything on the menu, and we had to ask a couple times for the hot sauce to spice up the unspicy lemongrass.

I really do want to like this place, I’m just finding it hard to. I’ll be back….just give me another couple months….

Twisted Taco – Kennesaw

Yes, that’s right – Twisted Taco in KENNESAW!

I wish they had all the bars here that they do now when I was in school 10 years ago. Of course, I think I would have enjoyed them a lot more than I do now too. Don’t get me wrong, I have a good time hanging out here once in a blue moon. I just get annoyed with the fact that they never seem to have servers for the tables, so while you are sitting on the deck relaxing, you are forced to get up and go to the bar if you want a drink. Speaking of drinks, their beer selection is really good, they even give Taco Mac up the street a run for their money.

I’ve never tried the food, but it does look pretty enticing with names like The Wyatt Earp and The Treasure of Sierra Madre – Crispy fried chicken, jack cheese, lettuce, salsa and jalapeno mayo. Looking forward to trying that one next time I visit.

Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant

Really good frozen margaritas, amazing salsa, fresh, flavorful food. All of these can be found at Las Palmas Mexican Restaurant in Kennesaw.

The combination plates are great if you want a mix of things and come with just about ever combination possible: tacos, burritos, enchiladas, rellenos, you name it. My personal faves are the chimichangas, the super burrito, and quesadillas. I love that they also have a great selection of seafood dishes although I have yet to give any a try.

So, if you find yourself in the Kennesaw area but don’t want to deal with the hassle of Barrett Parkway traffic, why not try Las Palmas?

Keegan’s Irish Pub

Great Neighborhood Bar.

This place has been open for a couple months and seems to draw a great crowd with its decent pub fare,  charming outdoor patio and friendly staff.

I have to admit, I was skeptical about this place. I figured that being near KSU it would draw the same crowd as Bailey’s (immature college kids, loud music, slow service). However, I pleasantly surprised at the crowd – a mix of young and older.

If you’re in the area I definitely recommend you check this place out. I think you’ll be as happy as I was that you did.

La Dolce Vita

Located, a bit off of the main drag of Barrett Parkway, this newly established Italian eatery is an excellent choice for those wanting and nice meal at reasonable prices in a decent atmosphere. Everything is sooooo great here. I’ve been there 3 times now and love it.

The service is fantastic. Food is delicious. And the prices are reasonable – almost couldn’t believe how reasonable. I went with the BF and we both had an entree (eggplant and beef which was exquisite) and it came with salad and rolls all for under $10.

Also, they had their house wine for like 3 or 4 bucks. And boy do they give a generous pour.

Just writing about this place is making my mouth water….
